Brain Compatible Learning skills teachers should use in the classroom.
USE PERIPHERALS: Classroom walls are expensive advertising billboards, change them every 2-4 weeks. Use lots of visuals in your teaching.
USE 10-48-7 RULE OF REVIEW: If something is worth teaching, it is worth remembering. Review every 10 min, within 48 hrs, again in 7 days.
USE CHUNKING: Brain remembers beginning and ending, much more than middle. Create three, 20 minute lessons, instead of one 60 minute lesson.
SET GOALS: Goals should be specific, positive, realistic, and written down. Students should be able to state HOW they will achieve their goal.
PROVIDE MODELS: Brain is designed to learn and develop patterns that can be replicated, thus use graphic organizers or flow charts.
BE POSITIVE: People respond to their perception, not to reality. Positive feedback moves students towards desirable results.
CELEBRATE: Celebration rituals evoke success emotions, which help reinforce learning. This makes learning memorable.
